Richard Henrich
​Artistic Director

Richard is founding Artistic Director of Spooky Action Theater and directed many of the company’s first productions, including Rameau’s Nephew, Alice in Wonderland and Holy Ghosts. Richard has a special connection with Samuel Beckett, having directed Beckett’s Play at the Yale Experimental Theater, as well as productions of Krapp’s Last Tape, Ohio Impromptu and The Lost Ones featuring Carter Jahncke at Spooky Action Theater. As an actor, Richard has been seen in roles at Arena Stage, The Shakespeare Theatre, Studio Theatre, Signature Theatre, Washington Shakespeare Company and other Washington area theaters. He also has the unique distinction of having performed the role of Krapp at the British Council in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Michael Sullin

Michael is a freelance director, stage manager, and teaching artist from Scranton, PA, based in DC. He has collaborated with companies such as the Keegan Theatre, Long Acre Lea, Signature Theatre, and Silver Finch Art’s Collective. Michael is a teaching artist at Imagination Stage and the Handwork Studios as well as a literary apprentice with the Shakespeare Theatre Company. BA: Drama, The Catholic University of America.

Gillian Drake
​Director of New Works

Gillian Drake is a director, dramaturg, and theater producer. After training with Stella Adler and receiving an MFA from Carnegie Mellon, Gillian began her work as the Associate Literary Manger at Arena Stage followed by New York Theater Workshop. As Director of New Works in Action, Gillian combines her skill as director and dramaturg to help produce readings and workshops, guiding playwrights through the stages of development. Gillian frequently partners with The Goethe Institut and other international embassies on various audience-interactive projects including DigitalEye@BlindWhino combining artists from The Shakespeare Theater, Studio Theater and others in pop-up immersive theater performances. Gillian is also a member of Spooky Action Theater's Board of Directors.

Roberta Alves
Communications Manager

Roberta Alves has developed Spooky Action's communications & outreach plan. ​She is responsible for contacting local media to promote SAT's events and performances. She holds a Master degree in Theater. She wrote a thesis about site-specifics performances. During her career as journalist and theater editor, she had the opportunity to interview award-winning theater directors like Peter Brook and Ariane Mnouchkine. Recently, she has directed the musical "Gimme a band, gimme a banana!" with Pointless Theater Company and "New Guidelines for Peaceful Times" with Spooky Action Theater. She was born in Milan, Italy, but she has also lived in Brazil and Australia before moving to the US.

Katherine is an experienced development professional from Massachusetts, based in Washington, DC. She has several years of experience at various not for profit organizations in New York City, specializing in donor relations and event management. She graduated from Marymount Manhattan College with a degree in Theatre Production and Arts Management.

Tyler Herman is a brother, a son, an actor, a director, a husband, a writer, a teacher. He has taught for Theater J, Ford's Theatre, Folger Theatre, The Actors' Center, Brown University, American Dance Institute, Faction of Fools Theatre, and more. He has also acted at Theater J, Trinity Repertory Company, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Imagination Stage, Adventure Theatre-MTC, Faction of Fools Theatre Company, and more. BA: Cornell University, Theatre, Dance, Music. MFA: Brown University/Trinity Rep, Acting and Directing.
